Metering Devices & Hardware Technology

Discussions on varying metering hardware and devices. Compare & contrast different metering devices, sensors and data aggregation hardware.

Hi Bryan_Smith,

We love to talk meters and devices! Anything in particular you want to discuss? The big trend we are seeing in the industry now is just the explosion of “Smart Meters” for all utilities in facilities. Check out this article which projects the number of global smart meters to double by 2033.

Has anyone had any experience with inline steam meters? We’re looking to an application to measure steam flow on a 125# central plant main steam header. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Bryan_Smith

NovaVue can absolutely collect data from Steam meters. They are part of our core platform for energy monitoring. Please reply if you need more information.

That’s great! Could you recommend any metering devices?

You definitely need to match the meter to your specific application, but here are a few that we’ve seen in the past. They all support output of the data using standard communications protocols which is important for data collection:

  1. Sierra Instruments’ InnovaMass® 240i/241i Vortex Flow Meters**
The InnovaMass 240i/241i models are designed for precise flow energy management in steam applications and offer easy integration with building automation systems.

  2. VorTek Instruments’ Pro-V™ M24 Inline Vortex Flow Meter**
The M24 model offers a reduced bore option to increase fluid velocity through the meter, extending its measuring range.

  3. Bronkhorst LIQUI-FLOW™ ‘Industrial Style’ L23I**
The L23I model provides fast and accurate measurements and is insensitive to mounting position, making it versatile for various installations.

When selecting a steam flow meter, ensure it meets your specific requirements for measurement range, accuracy, and compatibility with your existing systems. Consulting with the manufacturers or authorized distributors can provide additional insights tailored to your application.

Thanks for the information. Have you had any experience with the Onicon F-2600 inline vortex meters?
